COACH APPROACH RURAL – CREATING ENDURING LEGACIES FOR RURAL BUSINESSES, FAMILIES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES.

Our approach is to always begin with the end in mind and focus on what matters most. This forms a strong basis for defining where you are today and where you want to go. With clarity around where you want to be as a person, family and business, we support you to then identify pragmatic development pathways and solutions that will enable you to get to where you want to be – faster and in best shape.

WE SPECIALISE IN THE PRIMARY SECTOR – FARMERS, BUSINESSES, FAMILIES, TEAMS AND COMMUNITIES.

INDEPENDENCE

Free from any conflict of ownership or family relationships, our independent facilitation helps cut through roadblocks, clarify misunderstandings, connect the dots and deliver pragmatic guidance.

EXPERIENCE

Collectively we have available over 380 years of practical first-hand experience of the challenges and opportunities that working in rural business and on the land offers.

RELATIONSHIPS

Our empathy for rural people and what matters most to them builds trust across multiple generations so that all voices are heard as key decisions are formulated.

WHAT WAS THE MOTIVATION TO START AND CONTINUE SUCCESSION PLANNING?

We had the help and support of the previous generation to take over and grow our business and believe we must do the same to maintain profitability and sustainability.

WHY DID YOU USE COACH APPROACH?

We had talked with our Bank Manager about ideas for involving our children in our farming business. They had both shown an interest. He talked about Coach Approach and we thought this could be helpful. We needed help to get everyone talking, involved and contributing.

WHAT VALUE HAVE YOU RECEIVED AS PARENTS?

As parents, the biggest benefit has been the living document created as a result of family discussions, conversations and meetings. This is helping us to develop systems, commit to timeframes, to achieve clarity around the decision making processes in our business, to develop plans for the next phase of our lives and for ‘handing over the baton’.

Kieran and Julie Pavletich

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A COLLEAGUE OR FRIEND REGARDING THE COACH APPROACH TO SUCCESSION PLANNING?

We are confident that we didn’t coerce our family to do our wishes. We have peace of mind the decisions made were totally the family’s (not just ours). The end result is the family business is divided fairly, the family are all on board, and we have total transparency.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BENEFIT FOR YOUR CHILDREN?

For our sons it has given them information, grown their business knowledge and helped them formalise their own goals and ambitions. It’s made them more aware of each other’s needs and the journey we’re on to get from today to where we all want to be in the future.

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE THE SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS TO YOUR FAMILY FROM ENGAGING COACH APPROACH?

Questionnaires established all family members’ goals, ambitions and wish lists. Our current financial position (assets and equity) were made totally transparent to all family members at a family meeting. Clarity was established where we were, and where we all wanted to be in the future.

HOW HAVE THE TEAM CULTURE AND DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS HELPED?

We have completed a Team Culture & Development workshop with Ashley Burdon from Coach Approach Rural and McIntyre Dick & Partners. Following the workshops our team are communicating better, striving for the same goals and are now a tighter knit team. We have been wrapped with the results and would encourage any farm team to consider using one of Coach Approach Rural’s workshops on Team Culture – money well spent.
